Privacy

The short version

TalkingTiles has no accounts, no sign-up, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party SDKs of any kind. The app makes no network requests. Nothing you or your child does in the app is sent anywhere.

What is stored, and where

The app saves your preferences and content on the device itself, in the app’s own local storage. That covers:

• the sentence currently in the strip
• phrases you have saved
• language, voice, speaking rate and pitch
• tile size, symbol size and text size
• whether the Settings PIN is set, stored only as a hash — never the PIN itself
• whether the welcome tour has been shown

Where that data goes

Nowhere. It stays in the app’s storage on the device. We cannot see it, and there is no server to send it to. Removing the app removes it, and “Reset app” in Settings clears it immediately.

Speech

When a word is spoken aloud, the text is handed to the text-to-speech engine built into your device. We do not receive it and do not keep it.

Which voice does the speaking is your device’s setting, not ours. Some system voices run entirely on the device, and some may be processed by the platform vendor depending on the voice and settings you have chosen. That processing is covered by your device maker’s privacy policy — Apple’s, for an iPhone or iPad — and is outside our control.

Children

TalkingTiles is intended to be used by children, often with a parent, carer or speech and language therapist. Because the app collects no personal information at all, it gathers nothing about a child: no name, no age, no voice recording, no usage history, no identifiers.

Links out of the app

There is exactly one link that leaves the app. The Settings screen credits the symbol licence and links to creativecommons.org. Opening it hands you to your browser, and Creative Commons’ own privacy policy applies from that point.

This website

talkingtiles.app is a static site with no analytics, no cookies, no tracking pixels and no embedded third-party content. Its fonts and images are served from this domain. Our host records standard server request logs for security and reliability, which we do not use to build any profile of you.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it. Anything that materially affected what the app collects would also mean an app update, and would be described in the release notes.
