Common questions
- How do I change the language or the voice?
- Open Settings with the gear in the top-right. Language is the first section; Voice is the second, and it lists whatever voices your device has installed. Speaking rate and pitch are just below it.
- Does it work without internet?
- Yes, completely. Every symbol and every board is included in the app itself. It has never needed a connection, and it makes no network requests at all.
- The tiles are too small — or too big.
- Settings has a “Tiles per row” slider from 3 to 12. Fewer tiles per row means bigger tiles. On a tablet the header also has a size control so you can adjust without leaving the board. There are separate controls for symbol size and text size.
- How do I stop my child changing the settings?
- Settings → Parent lock → Set a PIN. After that, Settings asks for the PIN before it opens. The board itself stays fully usable.
- What data does the app collect?
- None. No account, no analytics, no tracking. Your settings and saved phrases stay on the device and are never sent anywhere. The privacy page has the full detail.
- Can I use the symbols in my own materials?
- Yes. All 240 are licensed CC BY 4.0 — worksheets, classroom displays, printed boards, even a commercial product. Credit them as “Symbols by TalkingTiles (CC BY 4.0)”.
- Is there an Android version?
- Not yet. The app is built so that an Android release is possible, and it is on the list.
- How do I get back to the main board?
- The ‹ arrow in the top-left goes back one board. Tiles with a › in the corner open another board; the rest speak.
